The Bombardier Global 8000, the world’s fastest civilian jet, has officially entered service at near-supersonic speeds.
According to the website New Atlas, the claimed top speed of the Bombardier Global 8000 is Mach 0.95. While this is not exactly “supersonic,” it definitely falls into the transonic range.
Its range is 8,000 nautical miles (approximately 14,800 km), while its service ceiling is 41,000 feet (12,000 m). It also features the lowest cabin altitude pressure, equivalent to 2,691 feet (860 m).
The Global 8000 also has an advanced wing design with winglets that provide takeoff and landing performance comparable to a light jet, allowing it access to up to 30% more airports than its closest competitor, the Gulfstream 700.
“Words like pride and excitement barely begin to describe what the entry into service of the Global 8000 means for all 18,000 of us at Bombardier,” said Éric Martel, President and CEO of Bombardier.
“Every innovation and every detail of the Global 8000 reflects the hard work, creativity, and dedication of our teams. This revolutionary aircraft is redefining the business aviation landscape with its innovative design, unparalleled smooth ride, unmatched performance, and a promise fulfilled to our customers.”
